Q: How is the questionnaire organized?

A: This questionnaire is composed of 3 areas, each one with its own theme, divided into sections containing specific questions. The 3 areas are:

A - Personal data
B - Relational data
C - Technical and criminological data

Q: Do I have to follow the order in which the 3 areas are listed (A, B and C), or can I choose freely?

A: You are free to choose the order in which you want to fill in the questionnaire (for example, you can start with C, continue with A and end with B and so on). This organization is useful for people who will analyze the questionnaire’s answers and has been implemented with the only purpose of classifying the replies.

Q: Do I have to answer to all the questions?

A: No, answering to all the questions is not mandatory. On the other hand, the credibility and the utility of this questionnaire and research depends on your answers. Therefore, please, answer to all the questions of the areas listed above and not only to the technical ones of the C area. The answers should be also as concise as possible.

Q: Is the questionnaire available in other languages rather then English ?

A: Right now the questionnaire is available in:

- Italian
- Greek
- Romanian

We are currently working on translating it in other languages too and we will make these versions available as soon as possible. If you wish to help us with the translation of the questionnaire in your language click here.

Q: Are there different versions of the questionnaire ?

A: Yes, it does exist an “Advanced” version of the questionnaire other than the “Standard” one.

Q: How do the Standard version and the Advanced version of the questionnaire differ?

A: The two versions differ mainly in the number of the questions and, as a consequence, in the time required to complete them.
From the analysts’ point of view, the key difference is that from the Advanced version we will gather much more information, that will allow us to cross-check the answers and thus validating them.
Choosing the right version is extremely important, in order to avoid “false positives/negatives” in the questionnaire’s answers analysis and elaboration.

Q: How can I get the Advanced version of the questionnaire ?

A: You can’t choose which questionnaire version fill: where applicable, the H.P.P. Core Team will privately deliver the Advanced version to you.

Q: How long does it take to fill-in the questionnaire ?

A: The Standard version requires an average of 20-30 minutes in order to be filled in.
The Advanced version requires an average of an hour and a half to be filled in.

Q: Can I use a web anonymizer in order to fill in the questionnaire ?

A: Yes, you can use a web anonymizer (if you find out a working one) and fill-in the questionnaire.

Q: What does ISECOM has to do with H.P.P.?

A: We have chosen ISECOM because its mission is to provide open methodologies to the international community, without prejudices and without taking sides. Every ISECOM project is freely usable in accordance to the GNU FDL license.

Q: Is this project protected by copyright?

A: The H.P.P. methodology adopts the GNU/FDL licence. The outputs of this research project, namely H.P.P.Project Presentation, materials and methodology of hacker's profiling, will be freely and publicly available.

Q: Are there any companies, business or secondary “hidden” goals involved in this project?

A: No, H.P.P. is a totally independent project, vendor-neutral and managed by voluntaries who dedicate their personal spare time to it. The project's only purpose is to eliminate false myths and provide a correct view of the hacking scene.

Q: How can I be sure of the anonimity of the questionnaire?

A: If you have a look at the credits and supporters, you should be certain about the ethics of the persons that manage the project. Nevertheless, we don't ask you to trust us with your life. For this reason we suggest using a chain of proxy (we don't think you need instructions on it ;P), an anonymizer or TOR.
